Say G'Day to Ozzie!

Updated: Dec 29, 2021

I wanted to hop on and introduce you to the newest addition to our Wee Critters family - Ozzie, the New Caledonian giant gecko!

This gecko is found on the remote islands of New Caledonia.

Populations of the New Caledonian giant gecko have been reduced in the wild by habitat destruction and predation by invasive species that have been introduced to the islands such as cats and rodents.

Some of the indigenous Kanak people of New Caledonia fear this gecko. This is because of an old superstition that the gecko has th

e ability to cling to a person's body and pull out that person's soul.

Ozzie will be settling in to his new home over the next couple of weeks and I then hope that he will start to come to some of my sessions with me. He will be helping to deliver a range of important environmental education messages including rainforests, classification, endangered animals, habitats and many more!
